Gordon Brown's 'bigoted' Woman Vs Adams Oshiomole's 'go And Die' Woman

Leadership has been described as "a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task". [1] For example, some understand a leader simply as somebody whom people follow, or as somebody who guides or directs others, while others define leadership as "organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal". [1]

In the Spring of 2010, prior to the election that swept out the Labour government of Gordon Brown from office in the United Kingdom. There was a critical case of the UK prime minister Gordon Brown having a two-faced relationship with the people - appearing nice and good in public but terrible and bad in private. Gordon Brown was notably fiery during private engagements especially when someone disagreed with him; however, he presents the usual happy face of the deceitful British in the public. During his campaign to return as the UK Prime Minister, he visited Rochdale and encountered Mrs Duffy a widow and a retired social worker, and a grandmother as well. Mrs Duffy challenged Mr Brown on issues pertaining immigration and crime. Mr Brown after the exhausting experience not releasing that the Skynews microphone was still attached to his body, told one of his aides that the encounter was 'a disaster' and described the woman as being 'bigoted'.

Mr Gordon Brown

Interestingly, this encounter took a big slice off the Mr Brown's popularity in the polls and when the tape was replayed to Mr Brown on BBC Radio 2 interview. He instantly apologies on air, made a personal telephone call to Mrs Duffy and visited her as well to apologies. [BBC],[Telegraph]

Mrs G Duffy

Recently, there has been a similar issue in Nigeria; Mr Adams Oshiomole and an unnamed woman mostly know by the people as ‘Go and Die Widow’. Mr Adams Oshiomole is Governor of the Edo State situated in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. He was elected as Governor based on the will of the people of the state and was re-elected as Governor with most of the market women making themselves the available electorate for the election.

Mr Adams Oshiomole

Online media in Nigeria has been angered by the recent video post on the Youtube: Governor Oshiomole and the 'Go & Die' Woman showing the high-handedness and lack of social relationship to the people by Mr Oshiomole. Inasmuch as the public is not fully aware of the offence of the woman in the video committed, people are very angry about the utterances and lack of human sympathy exhibited by the Governor. Most people believe that this issue could have been handled in a more amicable way; a leader to a follower way and not a Master to a Slave way.

Mr Oshiomole and the unamed Woman (Widow)

Comparing Mr Brown of United Kingdom and Mr Oshiomole of Edo State Nigeria, Mr Oshiomole should apologise to the public for his behaviour and set up a proper group within the state government to ensure that such offences committed by this woman is eliminated.

Violence: A Derivative Ideology of Religion(Another perspective on Michael Adebolajo)

I must say that this article is not about promotion of any religion; it is a deeper perspective about why people choose some religions.

Currently in the news, we hear of Boko Haram, Michael Adebolajo, Ombatse, etc. Human beings then to look for company, group or association so as to fill accepted and to have some sense of direction..

Let's start from the old religions of our forefathers. People worshipped these gods because they believe that it provided some protection from the supernatural. This protection can be defensive, offensive or both. Even in the Greek mythologies, their gods where worshipped for protection as well.

Now looking at Christianity, we can observe that it was weapon against roman government, to fight the brutal oppression of the people. Even during the crusades, Christianity rallied on its members to defeat the Muslims.

Currently, most religions are do not spearhead the use of violence to defend itself. However, Islam seems to provide a justification for violence so as to fight oppression or injustice.

Thus oppressed people will always find solace in religions that justifies violence so as to carry out revenge on their oppressors.

A critical history check on Michael Adebolajo and his accomplice in the recent beheading of a British Soldier shows that both have a history of being targeted by the law such as testifying in the court of law in murder cases, gang violence, and even some racism.

Christianity must have thought Michael to turn the other cheek, Atheism must have had no meaning and solution to his problems; thus when he encountered Islam, he saw a reason to fight, a reason to defend himself., a justification to violence.

We all desire peace, but how do we obtain peace? The key is in eliminating all forms of oppression. To err is human, to forgive is divine.

Bravo! Students Produce Transistor Tester

Students produce transistor tester
Wed, 15 May 2013 19:02:19
By Ebele Orakpo of Vanguardngr.com

Most students run away from science and technology classes because they find it difficult to use some of the complex devices during practicals. To help this set of students, three students of St Luke’s College Jos, Plateau State, Ishaku Yohanna, Shutt Noro and Olawuyi Toyin have come up with a transistor tester which they say is very easy to use and does not require a lot of technical know-how. They spoke with Vanguard Learning in Lagos.

“A transistor tester is an instrument used for testing the electrical behaviour of transistors and solid-state diodes. This device which is powered by 12-volts battery, gives the precise and accurate reading of an electronic component,” said the students.

Components: “The components are diodes, resistor and transformer. The resistor limits the flow of current in the circuit. Most students find it very difficult to use digital multi-metre to test the resistor, most especially the transistor because the transistor has three terminals – emitter, collector and base,” said Shutt Noro.

Construction:
Explaining how the transistor tester was made, Olawuyi Toyin said; “We first smoothened the surface of the plywood with glass-paper (sandpaper) so that when you are drawing your schematic diagram, you will find it very easy. After drawing your schematic diagram, you shade the points where you are going to drive in your nails. You use these nails because they are conductors, so passing your wires will be easy. When you are driving the nails in, you must ensure that they do not touch each other.”

On why they embarked on the project, Ishaku Yohanna said that most students find it very difficult to determine whether a transistor is PNP or NPN “but with this transistor tester, there is no need for you to start exchanging terminals, you just pick your transistor and place it on one of the terminals and when you do that, it will indicate the green light if it is PNP but if it is NPN, it will indicate the red light. The diode shows you the direction of the flow of current because diode moves in only one direction and it rectifies signals.”

“With this, we believe that students who have lost much interest in technology, will do more than we have done because this is just a stepping stone. Most students run away from technology because they find it difficult to use complex devices but with this, it becomes easier for them and they will have more interest in technology.   We believe we have written some students’ happiness and have erased their sorrows. If we cannot be the pencil to write people’s happiness, we should at least be the eraser to erase their sorrows,” said Noro.

Moyes joins United on six-year deal - Football - Al Jazeera English

Manchester United on Thursday confirmed that David Moyes will succeed Alex Ferguson as manager of the club.

Moyes's departure from Everton was announced earlier in the day and United subsequently revealed that he has been awarded a six-year contract at Old Trafford.
"When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes, we unanimously agreed on David Moyes," said Ferguson in a statement, the day after he announced his decision to retire after 26 years in charge.
"David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I've admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of assistant manager here.
"He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this club."

Replacement for Alex Ferguson

The retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson was confirmed officially on  8 May 2013; his last game will be against West Bromwich Albion and it will be his 1500th game in charge of Manchester United.

The pertinent question is who will replace Sir Alex Ferguson?

José Mourinho is definitely not available for this job. Given the indication that he is on his back to Chelsea and his contract with Real Madrid is yet to expire; getting JM to wear the shoes of SAF is a long short.

Antonio Conte is definitely a coach to have ; however, he has an ongoing project with Juventus and possibly his Italian style might not suit the English football.

Pep Guardiola has being on sabbatical for the past one year and has already penned down a contract with Bayern Munich to begin in the summer. Inheriting the best team in World of Football at the moment, he will definitely prefer to remain with Bayern Munich.

Arsène Wenger has being a rival to SAF since the beginning of time. With both coaches being the ones with longest careers in the English Premier league. Sure AW lacks a lot in the trophy cabinet in the past seven years; nevertheless, we should note that he has being on the tightest budgets.

Michael Laudrup had a fantastic career as a player and recently won his first trophy as a coach with Swansea FC. Just a beginner in the coaching world but with lots of potential.

Ryan Giggs is currently the most decorated player in the English premiere league like his boss SAF. Yet to go into coaching but he is a great candidate if continuity is considered.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has the potential for the job. Having played for MUFC and coached the youth team; he will surely carry on the legacy of SAF.

Jürgen Klopp, the question here is will JK want to move on from Borussia Dortmond? Will he he be interested in taking another challenge outside Germany or will want to cement his name in the Bundesliga. JK is absolutely phenomenal, a coach to have.

Who will be the next coach of Manchester United?

Rangers drop to Confederation Cup - News - Kick Off

Enugu Rangers have dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup following their 3-1 loss in the CAF Champions League at the hands of Clube Recreativo Libolo of Angola on Saturday.

The Angolans ran riot in yesterday's game taking a two goal lead into the break after Camara and Dario had found the back of the net.

Rangers fought back in the second half with debutant Sunday Mba pulling a goal back for Rangers in the 56th minute. But hopes of a comeback by the Flying Antelopes were however dashed when Libolo were awarded a penalty which was converted by Dario in the 74th minute.

Rangers who have never made it to the group stage of the Champions League since the inception of the current format of the competition have now dropped to CAF's second-tier competition, the Confederations Cup, to keep the Nigerian flag flying high on the continent.

Rangers will know their opponents in the Confederation Cup when CAF hold the draws for the third-round of qualifiers on May 7.

Atoms star in world's smallest movie from IBM

Researchers at IBM have created the world's smallest movie by manipulating single atoms on a copper surface.
The stop-motion animation uses a few dozen carbon atoms, moved around with the tiny tip of what is called a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM).
It would take about 1,000 of the frames of the film laid side by side to span a single human hair.
The extraordinary feat of atomic precision has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
It is a showpiece for IBM's efforts to design next-generation data storage solutions based on single atoms.
IBM's scientists have been behind a number of technologies that can peer into atomic and molecular systems - their recent efforts using a related machine called an atomic force microscope have yielded pictures of single molecules and even images that detail the atomic bonds within molecules.
The new movie, titled A Boy and His Atom, instead uses the STM, an IBM invention which garnered the scientists behind it the 1986 Nobel prize in physics.
The device works by passing an electrically charged, phenomenally sharp metal needle across the surface of a sample. As the tip nears features on the surface, the charge can "jump the gap" in a quantum physics effect called tunnelling.
The 242 frames of the 90-second movie are essentially maps of this "tunnelling current" with a given arrangement of atoms. It depicts a boy playing with a "ball" made of a single atom, dancing, and jumping on a trampoline.
"The tip of the needle is both our eyes and our hands: it senses the atoms to make images of where the atoms are, and then it is moved closer to the atoms to tug them along the surface to new positions," explained Andreas Heinrich, principal investigator at IBM Research in California, US.

"The atoms hold still at their new positions because they form chemical bonds to the copper atoms in the surface underneath, and that lets us take an image of the whole arrangement of atoms in each frame of the film.

"Between frames we carefully move around the atoms to their new positions, and take another image," he told BBC News.
The effort, detailed in a number of YouTube videos, took four scientists two weeks of 18-hour days to pull off.
It underlines the growing ability of scientists to manipulate matter on the atomic level, which IBM scientists hope to use to create future data storage solutions.
In early 2012, they demonstrated a means to store a digital "bit" - the smallest unit of information - using just 12 atoms, in contrast to the million or so atoms required by the device you are reading this on.
But A Boy and His Atom is, Dr Heinrich concedes, a bit of fun.
"This isn't really about a particular scientific breakthrough. The movie is really a conversation-starter to get kids and other people talking about - and excited about - math, science and technology."

Nigeria and Cote d’ Ivoire clash in the CAF U17

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria face Cote d’ Ivoire in the final match of CAF U-17 Morocco Telecom Championship to be played in Marrakech on Saturday. Cote d’ Ivore is the only team to have beaten Nigeria so far at the finals taking place in Morocco and the Nigerians have made it no secret that the defeat is still fresh in their minds and they are seeking redemption come Saturday. The Baby Elephants for their part have said, they will not dwell on what happened in the Group B match (which they won 1-0) but will approach the new match with a mindset for victory. Nigeria last won the title in 2007 while Cote d’ Ivoire is assured of its best ever finish at the U-17 finals regardless of the final score. Up until the Ivorians beat host Morocco to reach the final the best they had achieved before was a third place in the 2005 edition.
It has been described by many as Nigeria’s second chance at beating and avenging the earlier defeat to their fellow West Africans but some Nigerians among them Paul Bassey (a CAF committee member ) warned against an approach laden with revenge. “Yes Nigeria would like to win and set the record straight after the earlier defeat but you need cool heads to go about that and not been too bent on a revenge mission but aim to do what you do best and win the game as just another game” Bassey said

Baby Elephants’ defence which has been mean at this tournament will need to repeat their sterling work to keep out the most deadly strike-force at the tournament. The meanest defence versus the sharpest strikers is the main plot then for the final but the Ivorians though not as frequent scorers as the Nigerians a have a mobile midfield and in Dogbole Niangbo who scored only on when these two sides last met, they have a poacher of top quality ably assisted up front t by Chris Bile Bedia. Then there is the threat from the dribbling wizard in Junior Ahissan who plies the wings interchangeably tormenting defenders.

Many thought Nigeria had approached their last meeting with some complacency hence losing that tie and such a lot believe; the Golden Eaglets cannot repeat that error. Nigeria coach Manu Garba told Cafonline.com his team have an opportunity to write the past wrongs when they play the Ivorians, "They beat us in the group match and we know what we did wrong but also belief it was the destiny of that game but come Saturday our wish to put it right has been granted and we want to make sure we turn the tables on the Ivorians and win the title" said Garba.

The Nigeria pair of Success Isaac and Kelechi Iheanacho has notched twelve goals between them and in the highly unlikely event that they don’t score, in Musa Yahaya, Ifeanyi Mathew and Bernard Bulbwa they have goal-getters too. The last meeting between the two sides was not devoid of chances but settled on how clinical the finishing was, as coach Garba put it, “ In that first match against Cote d’ Ivoire we were unlucky not to score from the numerous chances we created , come Saturday we want to be sharper and more accurate with our chances”

CAN U17: Which Eaglets will soar highest in Marrakech?

Which Eaglets will soar highest in Marrakech?
And so we enter the home straight of the 10th CAF U-17 Morocco Telecom Championship 2013 and in Marrakech it has come down to a clash of the Eaglets as Nigeria and Tunisia meet in the second semi-final. The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria come into this match as the top goal scoring side with thirteen (13) strikes while The Carthage Eaglets have scored eight (8) times.

Nigeria stormed out of the blocks handing a 6-1 thrashing to The Black Starlets of Ghana before being derailed but Cote d’ Ivoire (1-0). The general verdict after that shock defeat to the Baby Elephants was that the Nigerians had become complacent and were made to pay. The Golden Eaglets have since redeemed their campaign with a 7-0 win over Congo and coach Manu Garba wants no repeat of the Ivorian episode. In preparing for the semi-final match The Golden Eaglets worked on different strategies that included practicing penalty kicks.

CAF U-17 matches go straight into penalties without playing extra time and according to Garba, “We have never excluded taking penalties from our training even before this preparation for Tunisia game. Almost all the players are good at taking penalties but we are going to work even more as we prepare for Wednesday match. That some of the world’s best players often choke and collapse under the weight of expectations during penalty shootout is a known fact hence the Nigerian lads are being tutored against becoming a choking on the big stage” said Garba.

The Tunisian defence that has been breached four times so far in the competition will have the top two leading strikers in Success Isaac (6 goals) and Kelechi Iheanacho (4 goals) to contend with come Wednesday. For their part The Carthage Eaglets have found goals in striker Ben Larbi Mohamed Firas with three so far and Haj Hasen Hazem who has found the net twice. Gong by the potent strike-force both sides bring into the match it looks like one game you can be assured of goals but puts the attention of defending. Nigeria gave away two goals and Tunisia twice as many as their opponents in the group phase of the competition. Can the sharp strikers be kept on Wednesday? That is the key question

"We are happy that we have eventually qualified for the World Cup because that was our first priority at this championship and we thank God that we have achieved that," Garba said. The affable coach went on to say that the Congo win is behind them now and keep focused on the goal ahead is the key and all attention is on the semi-final game.

Tunisia finished second in Group A after a 3-1 win over Botswana in their opening game, then beat Gabon 4-2 and played out a 1-1 draw with hosts Morocco in their final group game.
The winner of the Niger vs. Tunisia semi-final will meet Cote d’ Ivoire (who beat Morocco 2-1) in the final to be played on Saturday 27th April in Marrakech. The loser will play Morocco for third and fourth place match also in Marrakech in a game before the final.

CAF Champions League: Rangers held by Recreativo

Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Recreativo Libolo of Angola in a CAF Champions League third round tie.

Rangers deserved to win as they attacked their opponents from the blast of the first whistle, but Landu in goal for the Angolans proved his class as he stood between Rangers and goal.

However, Emeka Eze could have snatched a late winner for the home team in the dying moments of the encounter when he faced a begging net only to blast his effort off target.

The first half ended goalless even after Rangers attacked the visitors for most of that period.

The Nigerian club recorded 10 corners to Libolo’s one in the first 45 minutes, but they could not make anything out of these.

Striker Efe Yarhere was caught offside at least four times as the home team pressed for a go-ahead goal.

Newly signed goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim was captain with Ugonna Uzochukwu brought in as makeshift centre half alongside Madu Chibuzor in the absence of injured Cyril Oriaku, Pape Sane and Ekene Iwuorie.

The second leg will be played in a fortnight at Libolo over 200 kilometres from the capital city of Luanda with the winners qualifying for the money-spinning group phase of the competition

Suarez: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

In as much as the support for Suarez is increasing in the English Premier League, Suarez has again reenacted his vampire skills in football.

Suarez took a bite at Ivanovic's hand in the Liverpool vs Chelsea football match.

The Good: Suarez had a very beautiful flick to setup Sturridge for the first goal by Liverpool.

The Bad: Suarez literally had a hand in the second goal by Chelsea. In his dubious manner, he handled the ball in his penalty area.

The Ugly: Suarez exhibited his madness by taking a strong nibble on Ivanovic.

Redemption: The English FA will definitely not take the ugly incidence likely ; however, Suarez ended up grabbing the needed equalizer in the last minute of the game.

Sure, he will definitely be the talk of the news.

Golden Eaglets decimate the Congoleses

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria returned to winnings ways with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Congo during the last Group B match played in Marrakech on Saturday. Congo played for about an hour with nine men after two expulsions in on 32nd and 39th minutes but Nigeria was already 2-0 up at the time of the first expulsion. The win took Nigeria into the semi-finals of the CAF U-17 Championship and also ensured qualification for the FIFA World Cup to be played in October and November in United Arab Emirates. The match was only three (3) minutes old when Kelechi Iheanacho hooked home with his left boot for the opening goal from inside the box. A cross from the right sailed over everyone in the box and Musa Yahaya sent back into the box a low cross which Iheanacho converted into the match’s first goal. After conceding the early goal Congo then steadily played themselves back into the game and threatened Nigeria goal with Nyatsongo Obassi, Gassama Issambet and Kader Bidimbou involved. 22 minutes into the game Bidimbou did well to beat his marker and create some space to run at the next defender but he was adjudged to have gone down in the box too easily and Nigeria escaped with a free-kick. A few minutes afterwards Nigeria made a charge into the Congolese box and current tournament top- goal scorer, Success Isaac reacted quickest to to-poke past advancing goalkeeper Mpea Darnet Ombandza and Nigeria had their second goal. It got worse for the Junior Red Devil on 31st minute when defender Ngampio Imouele used his hands to stop a goal bound effort from Benard Bulbwa. While Imouele who was the last man in line of defence when he handled was marching off the field Success dispatched the spot kick to make it 3-0 to Nigeria. At the other end Congo came close to their first goal but Issambet hit the cross bar from about six meters out. Despite the man disadvantage the Congolese maintained their offensive style of play but worse got worst for the Congolese when Sakou Yobi was sent off for a bad challenge on Abdullahi Mutsapha 39 minutes into the game. Four minutes later Nigeria with a numerically advantage attacked from the left flank, stretching the Congolese defence and Success managed to pick out Iheanacho with a ball across goal which the latter tapped in for Nigeria’s fourth. After the interval it took just three minutes for The Golden Eaglets to score their fifth. Musa Yahaya finished off a move that broke through the center of the Congolese defence. Yahaya had enough time to pick his spot and tuck the underneath Ombandza. The nine men Congolese tried hard but were always on the back foot chasing the ball and trying to stop the ceaseless Nigerian attacks. Soon the match resembled an attack versus defence training session drill and on 59th minute it was Ifeanyi Mathew‘s turn dribbled and break through to score the sixth goal for Nigeria Iheanacho completed his hat-trick after profiting from goalkeeper Ombandza’s error to score the seventh goal. Nigeria finished top of Group B and will now play Tunisia in Marrakech while Cote d' Ivoire who drew 0-0 with Ghana finish behind Nigeria and will play host Morocco in Casablanca to complete the semi-final line-ups.

Funny Letter to Ghanaians from Nigeria

Dear West African Neighbours,

The news originating from your country since yesterday is that our U17 boys who trashed you 6:1 at the on going Caf Under 17 nations cup are over aged.
Apart from the MRI machine which disqualified about three of our players, how else do you determine the age of our boys? Probably by the score line. Hahahahaha.
Did we present over aged players at the South African nations cup where we trashed Mali and Burkinafaso that defeated you with ten men?

You must accept the fact that the giant of Africa is back to where it belongs.
The last time you won nations cup was over thirty years ago when we were still recovering from civil war.
Now that we have recovered fully, you will not win anything again whether it is under 17 or over 17. Just pray that we dont meet you on any knockout stage of any competitive sports. We are on top now.
Please help us tell your western neighbour of Ivory Coast what we said.
Their leader called Dede Dgoba congratulated us after we beat them in South Africa while your lousy Amasoa giam claimed that you would have beaten us if we met.

Our under 17 boys are actually under 17. The differences between you and us is malnutrition. Your boys dont feed well.. You eat bread with yam, how do you want to grow with such combination? Havent you heard about protein before?
We are not interested in the statistics that says ''Ghana is economically growing faster than Nigeria. The economy of Lagos state is bigger than that of your entire nation. We are pretty fine down here...
Please do not make the same mistakes North Korea is trying to make by provoking the Mighty USA and China. That was why Jumong always beat Dea-So. Arrogance!!

Thank you.
